Garlic Honey for Heart and Throat

Combining the sweet flavor of honey with the spicy, pungent flavor of garlic may seem like an unlikely combination, but it is surprisingly tasty. The honey also mellows out the heat in the garlic, allowing you to enjoy it in larger quantities without the overstimulating side effects. I mean, who doesn’t love garlic?

This can be used a Heart healthy glaze on your food or just taken simply for a sore throat every 1-2 hours. This preparation can be kept for years stored on the counter or in the fridge, though it is recommended to only make it in small batches of 8 oz.

You’ll need:

  • 1/2 cup fresh minced garlic (about 15 cloves)

  • 1/2 cup honey (local is always best to help ward off those pesky allergies)

    • If your honey is thick (raw), you may need to heat it slightly in a double boiler or over very low heat until it is the consistency of thin syrup.

Make it:

  1. Let the minced garlic stand for 10-15 minutes to allow it to react with oxygen and become even stronger medicine.

  2. Place the garlic in an 8 oz jar.

  3. Put half the honey in the jar. Stir well, then add the rest of the honey to the jar. The jar should now be filled to the top with the honey and garlic mixture. Add more honey, if necessary, to reach the top. Stir it well and then put the lid on.

  4. You can now let it rest on the counter (or in the fridge if you like) for 24 hours before using it. There is no need to strain the garlic from the honey. As time goes on, the flavors will infuse even more, but you’ll notice that the honey has become thin and taken on the taste of the garlic after only one day.
