AYURVEDA (science of life) is over 5,000 years old, and has been called Yoga’s Sister of Science. It’s a holistic system that addresses the whole person physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. In this way a person’s state of body, mind and spirit are assessed. To design an individualized treatment plan a person’s current conditions, lifetime history, past and current tendencies are looked at. In this way we don’t just treat symptoms but we bring the body back into balance and from there it can remember to heal.
People seek out ayurveda for many reasons. Some are attracted to Ayurveda because they want to better understand themselves and some come for specific ailments. We want better digestion, we want to eat better, feel our best, have better overall health and Ayurveda provides that. At Laya, we approach Ayurveda with a heavy emphasis on Herbalism. Those with specific ailments like allergies, asthma, sinus problems, skin conditions, weight management, stress, anxiety, depression, insomnia, ulcers, acid indigestion, gastritis, other digestive ailments, auto immune disorders, arthritis, reproductive problems, and so many other diseases or dis-eases can be addressed through this Ayurvedic journey back to health. Often people have tried other medical care or other healing modalities, and then come to The Laya Center for a comprehensive plan that incorporates integrative technology fused with Ayurvedic Principles and metaphysical work when the other therapies didn’t help.
Wherever you are on your Journey to Wellness, we treat each patient individually. Ayurveda offers a process of educating, self-awareness, and Holistic healing from the root cause of symptoms. In this way healing organically unfolds when we heal from our deepest inner layers through movement, mental health, body work, energy work, and Ayurvedic/Herbal Nutrition.
Although originally from India, many healing modalities derived from ayurveda. Hundreds of years ago it influenced the beginning of procedures that are part of modern medicine. (There are three Great Ayurvedic texts that influenced medicine: Charaka Samhita (contains poetic prose of internal medicine), Sushruta Samhita (ayurvedic surgery), and Ashtanga Hridayam (physiology of the body and treatments). Furthermore marma therapy, a bodywork threrapy in ayurveda, is similar to acupressure, later spread to other parts of Asia and became what we know of acupunture today. Our Ayurveda Massage incorporates a steady flow of Dosha specific oils with Meditative touch therapy, Cranial work, pressure point holding patterns, and lymphatic drainage.
In ayurveda we focus on an individual’s unique needs regarding food and daily activities to bring the body into complete health. We can balance our life through observation of nature’s cycles. When we are in sync with nature, and ride the waves of the seasons, deep healing can occur almost spontaneously.
Ayurveda and the elemental theory: All existence is made up of five elements and these elements have qualities that occur differently in each individual. The human body has three main body types called doshas (see dosha section for more info): Vata (made up of the qualities of air and space), Pitta (fire and water), and Kapha (water and earth). These doshas determine the personality, tendencies, and habits of an individual. Ayurveda says there are as many doshic mixes and as many possible imbalances as there are people. So while Ayurveda is a science of life, it is also a science for each individual, treating each person uniquely.

Abhyanga Oil Bath Treatment
ASSESSMENT: (15 min.) At each body session we develop a greater understanding, identify any changes and jointly develop an Ayurvedic approach to balance your dosha(s) - (vata, pitta, kapha). Daily we review the effects of your previous session with in-depth questioning and energy reading, then adjust your wellness program to best suit your needs.
ABHYANGA: (2 hours) Abhyanga treatments are a full body oil bath massage of medicated oils which balances your dosha(s), (vata, pitta, kapha) and brings them back to their rightful place. This aligns and strengthens your system so that 75% of your health issues reduce. We apply medicated oils by feeding you through your skin, which is your largest organ of the body. Regular abhyanga treatments balance a person holistically so that you can enjoy a natural and healthy life. When needed we also apply svedhana treatments, which is the application of a medicated heated bolus (herb packs) to specific areas of the body. It is therapeutic for bone and ligament conditions to areas such as neck, shoulders, scapulars, hips, knees, ankles and hands. In some extreme cases, this may also be followed an Herbal Steam Bath with a custom blend of herbs (additional 30 minutes).
AFTER: After each treatment you will be given a shot of our Toxin Trapper activated charcoal mix, then you can enjoy a special blend of Dosha Tea. You will then have the option to relax in one of our rooms or move to your Wellness/Mental Coaching session.
